In class we read about tejano music, a mix of traditional Mexican and country-western music, with hints of polka and other European influences. Selena Quintanilla-Pérez was one of the most famous tejana singers.

- Selena was called “The Queen of Tejano Music”.
- She first began performing at the age of 10 in a band with her siblings, called “Selena y los Dinos”.
- Selena’s concert at the Houston Astrodome in 1995 broke the record for attendance at that venue, with 61, 041 fans coming to see her perform.
- She won a Grammy in 1993 for Best Mexican-American Album.
