¡Hola! For any students and parents still receiving emails from this blog, I want to reach out and say that I hope you all had a great summer and are feeling ready and excited for the upcoming school year!

If you are the parent of a student who graduated 8th grade in 2020:

• Another big congratulations to you and your child! Wishing you all the best as freshman year starts next week. I will be clearing out the subscription list to this blog in the coming days, so this will be the last email you get from LCSpanish. It was an absolute pleasure teaching you all, and I hope to see you all sometime soon.

To parents of students who are in 8th grade this year:

• I’m looking forward to a great year! FYI: I will not be posting homework and announcements on this blog in the future, as that will now all be on Google Classroom (for both Spanish and social studies).  I sent out invitations to students’ Google accounts last week, but if you would like to join, feel free to do so at any time.

¡Buenos días! Thank you so much to everyone who has been sending me their Spanish work for the last couple weeks. I’m so impressed with the hard work students have been putting in and have enjoyed reading your responses.

I want to announce that I just set up Google Classroom for Spanish. I previously only used Google Classroom for social studies during this new distance learning experience, but it’s worked out very well, so now we’ll make the change for Spanish, too. There isn’t any new work for the next week (April vacation), but after that, work will be posted on Google Classroom. Please feel free to join any time, so that once work is posted, you’ll be all set. The code to join the 8th grade Class is zlyo6ua. The code for 7th grade is pepn2um.

¡Buenos días! The Quia quizzes for both 7th and and 8th grade have just been posted. As always, when you log in, click on the link that says “Class Web Page.” You’ll find these quizzes at the bottom of the activities list. 7th grade is taking a quiz on telling time, 8th grade is taking a review quiz on body parts and toiletries. You lave unlimited attempts over the next two days, and this does not count as a big “quiz grade,” but is just a way for me to see how you’re doing. If you find that you’re struggling, please send me an email!

Hello everyone! I hope you’re all doing well. Mr. Apperson recently sent out the new calendar for the next two weeks of work. The Spanish work is listed on that calendar, so please refer to that to see what should be done for each day. Some activities you should just do on your own (listening to Spanish music, for example), some should be done on Quia (and Quia automatically records your score or time logged in the activities), and some things, like diaries or video reports, should be emailed to me or shared on Google Drive (and it will say that on that particular day’s assignment). Today and tomorrow’s assignments were to practice certain topics on Quia, so there is nothing to hand in.

I realize that you have Google Classrooms for some of your other classes. I recently started using Google Classroom for 8th grade social studies and am seeing how that goes for this new situation. I used the blog you’re currently on in the past because it made sense for posting links and announcing homework, but I may set up a Google Classroom for Spanish in the future if it works well in social studies. However, there is not Google Classroom for Spanish at this time, so please refer to the calendar Mr. Apperson emailed to parents.

A couple updates and reminders to students using Quia for Spanish practice: Remember that, after you log in, you should click on the long link where it says “Class Web Page.” That is where all your assigned materials are.

I just added materials to both 7th and 8th grade. Both pages now contain practice activities for everything we’ve done so far, in order (oldest at the top, most recent at the bottom). If you want to work on what we were recently doing in class, 7th grade activities start with 2-2 (at the bottom of the list on the class web page). Recent 8th grade activities start with 5-1 (also at the bottom). However, if you feel like reviewing older material, go for it!

Finally, in honor of today’s holiday, here’s a song called “El Sol de la Noche,” by Salsa Celtica (have you ever heard bagpipes in a salsa song before?).

Good morning! As you are all aware, LCS will be closed for the next couple weeks. On Thursday I had encouraged students to check into the Spanish and social studies blogs for any communication from me. On Friday, Mr. Apperson sent out information regarding the supplemental materials for students to work on while the school is closed. This consists of an activity for each school day, for each subject. Please consult that calendar (emailed out to parents) for the schedule. I will be posting a similar message on the blog for 8th grade social studies.

In terms of submitting work, please don’t worry too much about that (for example, I know none of you have your Spanish diaries at home, which is fine). We aren’t putting grades on materials at this time, and I don’t want you to stress about this; the goal is that you’re engaged and staying fresh with the material. However, if you’d like to sent it to me, feel free to! You can email it to hsheldon@lisbonschool.org, or share it on Google Drive.

I know a lot of you will miss school, and I will certainly miss you! While we are off, I’ll post some things on the blog here and there, to stay in touch and for fun. For today, here is the link to the video report form.  In the next day or so, I’ll update Quia with new activities related to what we recently learned in class (telling time in 7th grade, reflexive verbs in 8th grade).  And below, you can find the video for the Spanish alphabet. A reminder that there will be a quiz on body vocab tomorrow (Wednesday).

Also, students have the opportunity to do a bonus video report. This is due no later than Friday, and will be worth a bonus homework assignment. Grades for the second trimester end next week!
